J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Weekly Sale of Sheep with Lambs at Foot, Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggs & Cast Ewes, Tuesday 28th April 2026

SPRING LAMBS & PRIME HOGGS

Something for everyone today with hoggs from 17-72kg. However, trade still holding up magnificently. Prime sheep commenced with spring lambs which sold to 513.5ppk for a pen of 4 from D & DW Prickett and to £200 from W Garnett & Son. A good number forward for the time of year however more could have easily been sold to match demand.

Hoggs hit 437.2ppk from Messrs Holme for a run of 8 Texels. Good types in the early 40kg bracket remaining in seriously good demand. 45kg Texels from Messrs JT Stables hit 431.1ppk while 42kg Continental from Cardwell Farms Ltd sold for 421.4ppk. A pen of 15 46kg Texels from AT Burrow & Son made 417.4ppk. Cheviots topped at 408.1ppk for half a dozen from AW & D Brown. Scotch Blackface topped at 389.1ppk for a pen of 23 from Messrs GM & A Jackson. Today’s sqq averaged up at 392.5ppk for hoggs while the lambs sqq levelled at 474.4ppk.

Cast sheep trade remaining buoyant here at J36, with a Charollais ram topping today’s sale at £272. Ewes to £240 for Suffolks with plenty 200+ at the stronger end, Mules to £216, best of these top side of £180. Cheviots to £196 with best horned ewes to £166 for Swaledale, £146 for Rough Fells & £132 for Herdwicks, plenty of pens of hill ewes top side of £120.

Solid trade again this week with a large entry present, surpassing the numbers for April 2025, proving Junction 36 is the place for sheep and lambs.
The sale comprised mainly of Texel families with plenty of other breeds making their first appearance of the season including Herdwicks and Swaledale.
Topping todays trade at £450 was a smashing pen of Texel five crops ewes with twins from PJ&ES Rogerson, Maisongill. The same firm also topped the single trade at £330 for the same goods.
Mule hoggs were in demand with pens from Colin Wharton making £320 with Suffolk lambs and £310 with Texels lambs. Dutch Spotted hoggs topped at £340 from AP Metcalfe, Kendal.

A large entry again with 86 pigs forward. Trade was solid throughout, with every sector having plenty to pick from.
